CAROLINE RUDGE: Time, Tradition and Travesty
Caroline’s subversive and humorous portraits combine time honoured techniques with postmodern sensibilities. Playing with the notion of traditional portraiture, her striking paintings juxtapose the classic with the contemporary.
The cropping and scale often give a challenging edge to Caroline’s work, whilst the delicate and detailed rendering captures each idiosyncrasy of the sitter.
Her recent focus on flamboyant costumes (some from Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s own collection), and use of ostentatious decoration infuse her work with a sense of grandeur, punctuated with elements of kitsch and theatricality.
Caroline’s technical aptitude and thought-provoking imagery, combine to produce memorable and imaginative characters.

THE PICTUREMAKERS
Founded in 2006, The Picturemakers is a collective of artists, limited to fifteen members based in Mid-Wales committed to supporting one another's art practice through regular discussions of 'work in progress'. The group reflects an extraordinary diversity of backgrounds and interests, yet is united in a common approach; that of members using their own individual experiences and observations to produce their images. In so doing each artist seeks to demonstrate what has impinged visually, as each tries to paint what is to be found in their own personal environment.
Their exhibitions demonstrate the results of this partnership and their commitment to communicating with an audience.
