FOURTH FRIDAY REPLAYS
Did you miss a recent popular film? Or just fancy seeing something again? Look out for 5 o’clock matinees showing on the fourth Friday of each month. And in case you can’t make that screening, there’s a Friday evening showing too. This season there’s another chance to see Sweeney Todd and The Kite Runner plus a re-release of Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. One of the workers, Alvaro, is a quiet gay man whose sexuality and love of books make him an outsider. And an inevitable target for El Turu’s hostility. The misty waterways and solitary lives are beautifully evoked through shimmering black & white photography. Winner of a special Teddy Award at Berlin 2007.
LADRONES (Thieves)

Alex has a criminal past but finds work in a hairdressers where his colleagues are so suspicious of him that he is finally pushed into conforming to their prejudices and reverts to type. Honing up his pickpocketing skills to profitable effect, he meets a middle-class shoplifter and decides to take her on as an apprentice. With an outstanding performance from Juan Jose Ballesta, this beautifully crafted film eschews the usual gritty realism for a poetic almost dream-like depiction of marginalised youth.
